Thursday marked the start of the area high school football season…Zeeland West opened its season by routing Detroit Country Day in a battle of state powerhouses 44-28. Danny Bauder scored four touchdowns for the Dux, who play crosstown rival Zeeland East next Friday in a game you can hear on WHTC and whtc.com. The Chix, meanwhile, romped to 44-7 win over Holland Christian. Caledonia shut out Holland 35-0 in a game broadcast on WHTC. West Ottawa traveled to the Detroit area, and it was a long bus ride back as the Panthers fell to Plymouth Canton 28-21. Middleville downed Hamilton 42-20, Saugatuck rolled over Edmore Montabella 48-6 and Fennville lost to Lawton 38-26.
