Report Finds that Many Households are Food Insecure

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service issued its annual report on food insecurity today.  The report showed that 13.4 percent of people in Michigan were considered to be food insecure during the period of 2010 through 2012.  The new food insecurity numbers come as members of Congress are returning to Washington from their August recess.  The Farm Bill is still on Congress’ agenda and the House majority leadership is expected to introduce a bill that would strip $40-billion dollars in funding from the SNAP program.  This would probably result in many people, including children, going hungry.
