HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- The windmill is turning. Repairs have been completed at the DeZwaan Windmill ahead of schedule. The replacement of the observation deck and support beams to the 252-year-old Windmill in 2012 revealed some bigger problems. Workers discovered that the beam that spans the Windmill’s cap, a pivotal piece in it’s function, was cracked. The Windmill was shut down at that time. The turret and cap were removed and rebuilt, including the 80-foot vanes of the turret. The new cap features a copper tile roof. Each tile was hand-bent and fitted to insure everything fit together properly. Windmill Gardens will reopen in the Spring. You can find more information at Holland.org or by calling 800-506-1299.
