UNDATED (WHTC) -- Firearms opening day was on Friday and Michigan’s economy is sure to benefit.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reported earlier this year that in 2011, Michigan generated more than 2.3-billion dollars in economic impact.  Food, lodging and transportation made up 271-million dollars and equipment costs made up 1.3-billion dollars in expenditures.  Right now, Michigan ranks 4th in the country for the number of licensed hunters in one state.  This year, the Michigan DNR estimates that more than 580-thousand individuals will hunt during the firearm season which runs through November 30th.
