
HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The local initiative to assure every child enters kindergarten prepared continues to grow. Ready for School held its annual meeting yesterday, and officials reported activity progress in several categories. The overall trend remained “positive,” with 62 percent readiness, with a goal of 75 percent still “attainable” in two years. Among other findings: Over 20 thousand youngsters had direct or indirect connections made with the initiative, with 375 children getting preschool tuition assistance, up from 203 last year; there were 19 education scholarships were granted to early childhood professionals; and the success of a pilot summer additional intervention program will led to its expansion in 2014. The Ready for School program works with children in the Holland, Zeeland and Hamilton area.
