HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The attempt to untangle the web surrounding the murder of a 38-year-old Park Township man continues.
Maryann Castorena waived a preliminary hearing in Holland District Court on a felony count of lying to investigators. The 40-year-old ex-girlfriend of Jose Hernandez allegedly wasn’t truthful as to her whereabouts or other details at the time that Hernandez died outside of his running vehicle parked in the Amberwoods Apartments complex off of Ottawa Beach Road. Authorities say that he was killed by a blow to the head up to 24 hours before his body was found covered in snow on January 6th.
Castorena, who is free on bond, along with 19-year-old Anthony Delagarza, a friend of both her and the victim who is also facing the same charge, could each get up to four years in prison and/or a five thousand-dollar fine. Nobody has been formally charged with Hernandez’ murder, although prosecutors claim in court documents that Castorena is a “prime suspect.”
Delagarza’s preliminary hearing is slated for March 5th.
