GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The legal saga involving Jenifer French returns to Grand Haven.
Arguments are scheduled this morning before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post on attempts by French to regain her position as Holland City Clerk. She was sacked nearly eight years ago after allegations surfaced of tax fraud involving homes that she and her husband had owned in the Tulip City and in Saugatuck Township. An arbitrator overturned the dismissal, but Judge Post reversed that decision. The State Court of Appeals restored the arbitrator’s ruling, and last month, the State Supreme Court refused to hear the city’s appeal.
Since then, lawyers for French and the city have unsuccessfully attempted to come to an agreement, with French insisting on full back pay, restored seniority, and a return to her position, which had never been officially filled since her firing.
