ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - One of the biggest concerns for a Lakeshore community is the subject of a special Allegan County Board hearing this morning. Dean Kapenga, who represents Saugatuck-Douglas on the governing panel, asked his colleagues to meet with representatives from the Kalamazoo Lake Harbor Authority, along with local private marina owner RJ Peterson, at 9:30 this morning in the Allegan Township Hall to go over what options there are for funding dredging that, if it’s not done, may dry dock the area’s recreational boating industry. The Saugatuck-Douglas area isn’t eligible for state- or federally-funded dredging because of the lack of commercial shipping, public marinas, and state-owned docks.
