UNDATED (WHTC) -- A 12-year-old boy was in a Kent County courtroom on Tuesday, charged with open murder, making him one of the youngest to be charged as an adult in the state of Michigan. Police say that Jamarion Lawhorn is charged with stabbing 9-year-old Michael “Conner” Verkerke to death at a mobile park playground in Grand Rapids. Conner and two other boys were invited to play by Lawhorn. Police are working to discover whether the stabbing was random. If found guilty, Lawhorn could be held in a juvenile detention facility until he is 21. A judge could then send him to prison but recent Supreme Court rulings say that a juvenile can’t go to prison for life without parole.
