ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - During this afternoon’s Allegan County Board meeting, Commissioners will discuss a letter drafted by Administrator Rob Sarro for state Department of Corrections officials Although the new lockup at the site of the former Haworth plant in Allegan can accommodate up to 325 inmates, only 225 will be incarcerated at any one time right now because "we are not currently staffed or budgeted to sustain population growth to the maximum construction capacity."
Sheriff's Department officials hope to have all of the administrative red tape cleared up this fall to have inmates occupy the new jail, several months after a public open house.
