HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The next phase in the construction of a 229 million-dollar, 125-megawatt, natural gas-fueled power plant near Holland’s Eastern Gateway was taken last night. The BPW Board approved a 1.9 million-dollar engineering services contract with Barton Mallow, which will take nearly the next three months going over the plans to make sure that the project says on target for costs and scheduling. BPW General Manager Dave Koster says that Barton Mallow should handle the actual construction of the plant. The land in the area of Fairbanks Avenue and 5th Street has been cleared, and utility officials say that foundation work should begin in March, with the plant slated to go online by late 2016. It would replace the DeYoung coal-fueled facility in being the primary power provider for the BPW.
