HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- An action taken by the Holland City Council at the Nov. 5th meeting could encourage the redevelopment of smaller, vacant, industrial type buildings into housing in the downtown and older residential neighborhoods. The city’s Neighborhood Enterprise Zone created a proposal that would remove size limits on square footage for the "enterprise zone" designation. City Council approved the proposal unanimously. Tax incentives for an "enterprise zone" would allow a property’s taxes to be frozen from between six and 15 years. The action came after a developer request to convert a small industrial building on Sixth Street into 12 one- and two-bedroom apartment units.
