ALLENDALE (WHTC) - Some students at Grand Valley State University aren’t happy about the university’s decision to invite Gov. Rick Snyder to serve as one of its commencement speakers. Snyder is to speak to graduates of G-V-S-U’s Seidman School of Business, health professions, nursing and engineering programs during the morning commencement ceremony April 27 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. More than 75 students have signed an online petition and more than 200 likes have been recorded on a Facebook page protesting the governor’s address. They’re angry that Snyder cut funding for higher education two years ago, although he has since reinstated some of that funding.
