ALLEGAN (WHTC) - Allegan County officials will have a study done to look into the feasibility of setting a consistent water level for Dumont Lake. Engineers have recommended construction of a steel sheet pile dam to keep levels consistent, which they say will help minimize erosion damage from periods of high water, protect the lake environment and maintain recreational benefits. Dumont Lake is home to a county park, a public access boat launch and two private campgrounds. Cost of the new dam would be 105-thousand dollars, of which the county would pay 20 percent, and Allegan and Monterey townships 5-percent each. Property owners near the lake would pick up the rest of the tab.
