Dog Census in Ottawa County

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office will be going door to door beginning June 4th to take a dog census.  Michigan law requires that all dogs four months and older be licensed.  Officials think that only about one third of dogs in Ottawa County are registered.  A license is proof that the dog has been vaccinated for rabies and makes it easier to get dogs back to their owner.  It also saves money because the dog can be returned to its owner instead of ending up in the shelter.  County officials to get their dogs vaccinated BEFORE the census begins.  Homes with unlicensed dogs will be given information on how and where to get the licensed.  Visit miOttawa.org to order the license online or through the mail.  If your dog doesn’t have its shots, get him vaccinated and you can get the license at your vet.
