
GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - A Holland Township man received a sentence of life in prison today for 1st degree murder in the death of his landlady. Fifty-three year old Thanh Le died from severe burns over more than 55 percent of her body six days after the attack. Davanh Phouangphet, the 32-year-old Holland man who was found guilty on May 19th was sentenced to life in prison without parole in Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing's courtroom today. Part of the sentence includes paying $45,000 in restitution. When Phouangphet turned himself in to police at the crime scene, he said, “I couldn’t take it anymore. She always rag on me,” according to testimony. Earlier today, Phouangphet reportedly told the judge he did not commit the offense and that he set the room on fire but did not set Le on fire.
