ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - A 17-year veteran Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy is on paid administrative leave after allegedly striking a 60-year-old Hopkins woman with his vehicle while off-duty as she walked along 135th Avenue east of 25th Street on Tuesday afternoon. The victim was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of critical injuries. No names were officially disclosed as state police troopers are handling the investigation, although there are reports that the victim was Sue Newell, the wife of retired Hopkins High football coach Jim Newell.
