SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - An 18-year-old Chicago woman visiting the South Haven area died when she was struck by a car in the middle of 68th Street near Phoenix Road just after midnight on Thursday morning. Authorities say that 18-year-old Charles Carrigan of Kalamazoo was driving south and apparently distracted by a GPS device, looking to find the junction of M-43, when he swerved to miss another pedestrian walking on the road shoulder, but struck Ayala Shulman, who was in the road near the center line trying to avoid being hit. She was pronounced dead at Bronson Hospital. The case will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department for review.
