HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- Last night’s Street Performers series was interrupted by a police situation involving an apparently distraught 55-year-old Holland man. Mark Charles Armstrong’s family had contacted Holland Public Safety around 8:30 p.m. saying that the suspect had allegedly made phone threats to his ex-girlfriend in Wyoming, along with calling some other people and that they were concerned for the man’s safety. Officers found the man’s empty vehicle behind New Holland Brewery. While they were checking the vehicle out, the suspect came forward, brandishing a weapon. No shots were fired before he was cornered. After 20 minutes of negotiation, Armstrong surrendered peacefully. He spent the night in the Ottawa County Jail and was arraigned today on two counts of Assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of Felony Firearm possession. Bond was set at 30-thousand dollars.
