SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) - The Saugatuck City Council last night endorsed a five thousand-dollar allocation towards a joint study with neighboring Douglas on the pros and cons of a possible consolidation of the two cities into a single governmental unit. State officials have already endorsed a merger; groups for and against the union are circulating petitions, asking for a public vote, and those petitions need to be filed in Lansing by February 18th. Douglas officials vote on the proposed joint study plan next Monday; if they concur, an independent firm will be retained at a cost of 10 thousand dollars.
