LANSING, MI (WHTC) - As taxpayers are already flocking to preparers or are sitting in front of their computers for filling out income tax returns, the specter of looming back property taxes are haunting a few homeowners along the Lakeshore. Treasurers in both Allegan and Ottawa counties are hoping to help them out by signing up for a statewide “Help for the Hardest Hit” program. Funded from Washington, the initiative would loan up to 30 thousand dollars for paying back property taxes and/or mortgages. Ottawa County Treasurer Bradley Slagh says that groups such as Holland’s Community Action House and Grand Haven’s Neighborhood Housing Services are partnering with his office in getting the word and the money out to those in need.
