WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - A way to speed up the response time in an emergency has come to the Lakeshore.
Officials from various jurisdictions announced yesterday the creation of a “Smart 9-1-1” program, where residents in Holland, Zeeland, Grand Haven and other communities can sign up online, enter vital information about themselves and their household, and as Ottawa County Central Dispatch Executive Director Tim Smith explained, have that data available when an emergency arises.
Ottawa is one of five counties in Michigan participating in the Smart 9-1-1 initiative that encompasses 32 states and over 450 municipalities nationwide. Smith added that the information submitted to www.smart911.com is kept secure and confidential, and is only made available in emergency situations.
