ALLEGAN TWP., MI (WHTC) - A Holland couple in their 60's died last night when their motorcycle slammed head on into a car on M-40 northwest of Allegan around 5:40 PM.
According to Sheriff's Deputies, 69-year-old Robert Kammeraad and his wife Susan, who would have turned 67 on June 25, were heading northbound. Meanwhile, an unnamed 23-year-old Grand Haven woman, with two passengers in her vehicle, was southbound and apparently didn't see a line of traffic that had stopped behind a vehicle wanting to turn left onto Babylon Road.
The woman swerved to the left in order to avoid rear ending the last stopped vehicle and went right into the path of the bikers. Despite wearing helmets, the Kammeraads died at the scene. The driver and one passenger were taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment, while the other passenger went to Allegan General Hospital; all three are expected to recover.
The crash remains under investigation, with the possibility of charges being filed by the Allegan County Prosecutor's Office.
