WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) - A three-vehicle pileup at a West Olive intersection last night hospitalized two persons and jailed another. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, an unnamed 33-year-old South Haven man had halted his eastbound vehicle on Van Buren Street at 136th Avenue around 5:30 PM. He then pulled out into the path of a northbound vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Christy Raak of Holland. The collision sent the South Haven man’s vehicle into another vehicle, driven by 37-year-rold Konesavanh Carroll of Holland, which was stopped on the other side of the avenue. The South Haven man attempted to flee the scene on foot and was caught a short distance away by a Sheriff’s Canine Unit; he’s in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment on fleeing and eluding charges. A passenger of his, 54-year-old Arnulfo Herrera-Castillo of Gobles, along with Raak, was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries; Carroll was not hurt. Koster said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
