UNDATED (WHTC) - Voter turnout is predicted to be light on this first Tuesday in August, the annual Primary Election Day in Michigan. Although the top of the two political party tickets are already set with no primary challenges, which has led to the low turnout forecasts, lower offices will see some battles.
In a heavily-Republican part of the state, GOP voters today will probably decide the next House Representatives in three districts along the Lakeshore. Two of the seats are open due to term limits, with Daniela Garcia, Bob Harmsen, Geoff Haveman and David Kroll vying to replace Joe Haveman, while Randy Brink, Cindy Gamrat, Stephen Schulz and Mary Whiteford battling to succeed Bob Genetski. Incumbent legislator Amanda Price faces a primary challenge from Matt Wiedenhoeft.
All state voters will decide on Proposal 1, which would approve a new state funding formula for local units of government in the wake of the abolition of the Personal Property Tax. Local proposals include several millage requests for emergency services and libraries, along with a 19 million-dollar bond proposal for a new Georgetown Township municipal complex.
Polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.
