HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Having two employees on hand apparently kept a cellular phone carrier on Holland’s South Side from suffering loss and perhaps prevented any harm done.
According to Public Safety Captain Jack Dykstra, a black man in his teens to early 20’s walked into the Verizon Wireless retailer on Washington Avenue near 40th Street around 7:45 last night, drew out a long-barreled, revolver-style handgun, and demanded merchandise from the clerk. Apparently unaware to the suspect, a second worker in the back quickly escaped and phoned 911. The suspect then fled on foot without getting any merchandise, and the two employees were not harmed. A canine unit wasn’t able to follow a track left behind by the suspect, but an image from surveillance video was captured and is posted above.
