LANSING, MI (WHTC) - During yesterday’s Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund meeting, members were told by the Land Conservancy of West Michigan and the West Michigan Environmental Action Council that as much as 7.5 million dollars of private funds will be available if the state decides to allocate a 500 thousand-dollar grant towards purchasing 150 acres next to the Saugatuck Dunes State Park. It’s about half of the northern portion of the former Denison property that was purchased by Aubrey McClendon, and the groups are seeking to block his Singapore Dunes LLC holding company from developing what they believe to be pristine dune land, a claim that the developers contest. Singapore Dunes reportedly said in August that the property is not for sale. The Trust Fund will decide on their annual grants in early December.
