UNDATED (WHTC) -- Some 50 people came out in the cold to take part in a protest against the findings in a hit-and-run case by the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office. A 64-year-old Grand Haven woman was charged with a misdemeanor in the death of 15-year-old Jonathan Bracamontes that took place Sept. 30th. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says that the teen crossed against the light on Riley St. and U.S. 31 just before dawn. Ruth Borgman had the green light westbound on Riley St. and with a box truck in the next lane, her vision was restricted. She contacted the Sheriff's Office some five minutes later to report that she had hit "something." Borgman pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge and is scheduled to be sentenced on De. 23rd.
Bracamontes family and friends protested in the parking lot near the intersection of Riley St. and U.S. 31. Two more protests are planned for Dec. 30th and Jan. 30th.
