ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- Kayakers out enjoying the mild temperatures late Saturday afternoon contacted the Allegan County Sheriff's Dept. to report what they thought could be an abandoned vehicle. Deputies were dispatched to the Swan Creek Highbanks unit in Valley Township just before 6 P.M. The caller reported that there was no one else in the area. The vehicle had a kayak rack and a paddle lying near the launch area. Deputies searched the area for the vehicle's owner. They learned that the 27-year-old Kyle Shinske of South Haven had reportedly gone out to do some waterfowl hunting and fishing. Sheriff's Office dive team members found Shinske's body in Swan Creek at around 8 A.M. Sunday morning. The preliminary investigation indicates drowing as a result of a boating accident. Shinske was not wearing any type of flotation device. The incident remains under investigation.
