ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC) - Salem Township fire officials say electrical problems are likely at the root of a Friday morning mobile home blaze that left two people dead. Fire Chief Larry Hildenbrand says while an exact cause has yet to be determined, they say the fire started in a ceiling space above the master bathroom and was electrical in nature. Hildenbrand also says the smoke detectors inside the home were battery-operated and that most of them had the batteries removed. 54-year-old John Betser and his longtime girlfriend, 55-year-old Brenda Lee Metcalf, died in the blaze.
