MARNE, MI (WHTC) - A 15-year-old Wright Township boy suffered critical injuries after being struck by a car going full speed on the road in front of his home this morning. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, a Coopersville Public Schools bus had stopped along 8th Avenue north of Arthur Street just before 7 AM and had its passenger loading red flashers on. A northbound car, driven by 79-year-old Margaret Gessner, drove through the flashing lights and hit Jovany Viveros as he attempted to cross the road in order to reach the bus.
Viveros was taken to DeVos Children’s Hospital in stable condition with internal injuries and broken bones, while Gessner and her 51-year-old son Scott, both from Grand Rapids, suffered bumps and bruises. Viveros’ 13-year-old younger brother was standing in the family’s driveway, inches away from the road, but wasn’t involved in the accident.
An investigation into the incident continues.
