HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - The Holland City Council got an earful during last night’s work-study session.

It was the final chance to go over the proposed fiscal 2014 budget before next Wednesday’s final vote, and representatives of the Holland Historical Trust were on hand to petition the city for about 50 percent more than the 58 thousand dollars allocated in the spending plan. They said that, if the extra funds don’t come, they may be compelled to ask for a regional millage vote this fall.

Council also heard from Michael Bippley, a M-DOT traffic and safety engineer, who explained why some sections of M-40 heading south out of Holland may need to have higher speed limits than now posted. A number of agencies had called for a traffic study between Holland and Hamilton in an effort  to improve safety in that stretch. Council asked for more information about that high-volume traffic corridor before making any final decisions on adjusting speed limits.
