HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - After a late-running winter and a wetter-than-normal April, many of the planted tulips in and around Holland are expected to start blossoming this weekend. Local horticultural experts say that there should be up to 50 percent color by the time the Tulip Time Festival begins a week from tomorrow. Last year, weather conditions led to a premature blossoming period, leading festival organizers to print up “stem fest” t-shirts that poked fun at the situation. The city of Holland plants around 300 thousand tulip bulbs on municipal grounds, with more than twice that amount planted privately in the area.
