HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - Waiting for traffic on a sidewalk at a corner on Holland’s North Side proved to be no safe haven for a 42-year-old Holland bicyclist who ended up as apparent collateral damage in a two-vehicle crash.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, Michael Hansen Jr. was off of Douglas Avenue at Analine Avenue, while 28-year-old Miquel Martinez of Holland wanted to turn his eastbound vehicle left, and 47-year-old Jack Boers of Allendale was driving his vehicle westbound. Hansen was stopped on the sidewalk when Martinez’ vehicle, after colliding with Boers’ vehicle, careened into the bicyclist.

Hansen was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital and initially listed in serious condition; the two drivers were not hurt, but two children in the Martinez’ vehicle had to be treated for minor injuries at Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
