ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - The world around Terry Burns has apparently come crashing down in a year's time.
At this time last July, the one-time Allegan County Commissioner was considering a run for the state House seat that Bob Genetski was leaving due to term limits. A month later, his daughter died in a crash along I-94, and last November, allegations of embezzlement were laid by the girlfriend of 84-year-old former Mi Ro Golf Course owner Joe Migas, whom Burns had been the legal guardian of. At the time, the one-time Saugatuck Township supervisor admitted that he did pull several thousand dollars from Migas' acount for various purposes.
Burns ended his candidacy in February, and yesterday, he pled guilty to one count of attempted embezzlement from a vulnerable adult of between 20 and 50 thousand dollars in an agreement with prosecutors that had a more serious charge dropped. He could still get up to five years in prison when he is sentenced on August 25.
